08/05: Shoreline Master Program Task Force meeting (7/11/2010)

6:30 PM at the Island Lake County Park's John Horsley Community Center meeting facility. Drive north from Silverdale, turn from Silverdale Way onto Bennington Way at the light at the Chevron Station and follow the road directly to the lake and the community center.
All KAPO members, shoreline property owners, and anyone interested in not giving up control of their property to the county are strongly advised to come to the meetings of the Shoreline Master Program Task Force and observe and participate in the process the county and Department of Ecology are implementing to place overly-restrictive and unnecessary controls on shoreline property. Under the law, the county is actually afforded a wide range of latitude in deciding how stringent and precautionary the shoreline controls will be. Environmental activist organizations and the tribes are putting pressure on counties to implement overly-protective regulations - in most cases finding willing partners on the county's planning staff, and successfully achieving their objectives - including extraordinarily large buffers that cause homes to become non-conforming structures subject to stringent replacement and modification rules - with little or no supporting science. It is only when citizens like you show up at the meetings and express your objections, that more reasonable regulations are achieved. There is a public comment period at each meeting where you can be heard. You don't have to own shoreline to participate. Numbers count - and you will find you are not alone.
